Closing down 31/12 2024

Our mission was to help Ukrainians who fled the war to feel safe, protected and valued in Denmark

Dear Ukrainian friends, dear current and past volunteers, supporters, collaborators, stakeholders

Aid Ukraine Denmark was founded a few days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine with the clear purpose to help Ukrainian refugees to Denmark in a safe way, provide housing in a time when no one were prepared for this catastrophe, and to provide the most basic emergency help once in Denmark. Since then, we have worked entirely as a volunteer based organization, fully realizing that we most likely could not continue forever. We promised to keep going as long as we had the energy, and now, as our resources dwindle, the time has come. We have decided to close down Aid Ukraine Denmark. Yet, we do so knowing that we have made a real difference.

Who We Were

Born out of necessity and driven by compassion, we mobilized a community of volunteers to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Throughout our time, we have worked tirelessly to support Ukrainian refugees, offering not just physical help but also warmth, hope, and a sense of belonging.

In our founding articles of association we stated that any financial surplus at the potential dissolution of AUD should be used for the Ukrainian emergency aid cause. We have decided to give the money to Danish Red Cross and their work in Ukraine.

As we prepare to close our doors on December 31, 2024, we reflect on the journey we have shared. What began as an urgent response to a devastating crisis grew into a community of care and action. It is with heavy hearts that we end this chapter, but we take pride in all we have achieved together.

What we did

Since our inception, Aid Ukraine Denmark has accomplished incredible feats thanks to the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our partners. In the past two and a half years, we have:

  • Transported over 500 people to safety on buses.
  • Provided housing for 70 families, giving them a secure place to call home.
  • Organized countless social events, fostering a sense of community.
  • Held two successful job fairs, helping refugees find meaningful employment.
  • Established a buddy program, connecting Ukrainians with local friends for support.
  • Partnered with major corporations and foundations to amplify our impact.
  • Ran a thriving Youth Group, creating a safe and engaging space for young people.
  • Enrolled 384 Ukrainians in intensive English courses to help them navigate their new environment.
  • Distributed essential resources, including clothing, computers, mobile phones, and financial assistance.

All of this was achieved through the unwavering dedication of our volunteers. We can be proud of what we have done, even in the face of challenges that seemed insurmountable.

When we started Aid Ukraine Denmark, we could not have imagined how long the war would last. We promised to keep going as long as we had the energy, and now, as our resources dwindle, we know it is time to step back. Yet, we do so knowing that we have made a real difference.

Thank you!

To all of our sponsors, volunteers, and supporters—thank you.

You have given your time, resources, and love to make life better for Ukrainian refugees who found themselves displaced by war. Together, we created a community that brought hope and stability in a time of uncertainty. We could not have done it without each and every one of you. Your contributions have made a lasting impact, and we are profoundly grateful.

As we close this chapter, we carry with us the memories of what we have achieved together. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.
